Homeowner Assistance Fund

Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) is a government-sponsored initiative managed by the Department of Treasury to offer assistance for homeowners impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic that began in 2020.

Note: The application process is handled by each state. The state determines eligibility, approves or denies the application, and advises USAA of their final decision. USAA has no involvement in the review or decision process.

HAF programs may include the following:

  • Mortgage payment assistance for unemployed or underemployed homeowners;

  • Reinstatement for delinquent accounts;

  • Principal reduction to help homeowners get into more affordable mortgages (recast or modification); and/or

  • Funding to eliminate homeowners’ second lien loans.
